Brouillan-Fénélon
Penaroya and Brouillant Ouest Properties
Location and geology :
The Penaroya and Brouillant Ouest properties respectively consist of 15 and 6 map-designated claims, 100% owned by Arianne Resources Inc. They are located in northern Abitibi, Québec, Canada, on NTS map sheet 32E14, and lie in generally swampy ground covered by a layer of overburden that ranges from 1 to 120 metres in thickness.
The rocks on the property are Archean in age and belong to the Harricana-Turgeon Belt of the Abitibi Subprovince in the Superior Province. The Harricana-Turgeon Belt hosts several gold and polymetallic deposits, such as the Detour mine (1,765,000 ounces Au extracted from 1974 to 1999), the Selbaie mine (45,000,000 metric tons at 1% Cu, 2% Zn and 39 g/t Ag (1982-2005)), the Casa-Bérardi mine (159,469 ounces Au extracted in 2007) and the Persévérance mine (estimated resources of 5,100,000 metric tons at 15.8% Zn, 1.25% Cu, 29 g/t Ag and 0.38 g/t Au).
Relevant previous work :
Several programs have been carried out in the area of the Penaroya and Brouillant Ouest properties. Enthusiasm for gold and base metal exploration began around the 1970s in the region, following airborne electromagnetic surveys and the discovery of the Agnico Eagle (1967) and Detour (1974) mines (Lacroix et al., 1990).
The region was mapped and broadly described by Bancroft (1912) and Remick (1969). The regional geology was compiled and interpreted by Rive (1985), Avramtchev et al (1981), Hock (1987), and Lacroix et al. (1990, 1994).
About seventy (70) reports of exploration work on the properties have been filed since 1959.
2008 work by Arianne :
The work carried out in 2008 consisted of a helicopter-borne VTEM survey and a compilation of previous work on the properties.
On February 20 and 26, 2008, a helicopter-borne VTEM (Versatile Time Domain Electro Magnetic) survey was conducted by Geotech Ltd. over the entire Brouillant Ouest and Penaroya properties. The survey’s flight lines were north-south, spaced 100 metres apart. Magnetic and electromagnetic sensors were placed vertically under the helicopter at respective distances of 13 and 35 metres. A total of 122 line-kilometres (50 km on the Brouillant Ouest property, 72 km on the Penaroya property) were flown.
In summary, the survey clarified some geological contacts and defined major structures occurring on the property. Numerous EM anomalies were also detected.
Along with the survey, the compilation carried out in this sector will lead to better understanding of the geology and define potential targets for future drilling.
